Australian Red Cross - Victoria Volunteer Social Media Pages

June, Corry, Pauline (pictured) and Sue have been serving their community at the Berwick Red Cross Shop for 15 years.

Pauline, 84, knows volunteering is a great way to stay busy and to connect with others. ‘At my age, it gives you motivation and gets you up everyday meeting new people’, she says.

Corry plans to continue volunteering until she celebrates 20 years of service. She loves the products that can be found at Red Cross Shops. ‘It’s all going to a good cause and you can get some beautiful items here. I dress in all Red Cross clothes.’

Each year, Red Cross Shops save 450 tonnes of clothing from landfill, and generate funds to support vulnerable people in Australia and around the world. Our retail volunteers help create vibrant communities, sort donations and create eye-catching displays, all while supporting the vital work of Red Cross.

Samos Volunteers Fundraising Communications

Urgent need for your support

Samos Volunteers supports the displaced communities living on Samos with a distribution of clothing and shoes for winter.

Individuals arrive on Samos with limited possessions. Our distribution is vital for many who need adequate clothing and shoes for the cold, wet weather.

We provide this essential service in a way that upholds dignity and choice, by inviting people to our Alpha Free Shop to choose the clothes they feel most comfortable in.

Recently, the population of the camp on Samos has more than doubled.

This year’s winter distribution has just begun, and up to 70 people are arriving at the Alpha Free Shop every day. We expect these numbers to be even higher next week.

Samos Volunteers took on responsibility for this essential service in April when another organisation departed the island. Providing the distribution for more than 1000 individuals, alongside our other services, means our resources are stretched.

All of our volunteers have been called to help the distribution team. The teachers, laundry operators, vaccination leads and coordinators of Samos Volunteers are working long hours alongside the warehouse and Alpha Free Shop crew.

But we urgently need your help to continue.

Our work relies on private donations. It will cost more than €17,000 to carry out this distribution.

Please donate now.

100% of your donation will be used to run our services on Samos.

Your support will ensure every individual claiming asylum on Samos has warm clothing and shoes for the winter.

Blog Post | You’re not perfect, but you are

I dated a Christian, straight-edge vegan. At the time, I was a late night boozing wild child. And definitely not religious. My friends laughed and declared the relationship wouldn’t work, but it did. Ours was a beautiful union based on open communication, respect for all beliefs, and unwavering support of each other’s dreams – no matter how crazy. I’m so grateful for the relationship and everything I learned within that loving space.

I once commented to my love: “You’re perfect”. He responded, “Nobody’s perfect”. It took some discussion about what we each understood ‘perfect’ to mean, for me to realise we were stating the same thing in different ways.

∆ ∆ ∆

For me, perfection is who we are in each and every moment, perceived ‘flaws’ and all. I trust that at every point in time in the infinity of our lives, we are exactly who we are supposed to be. Perfect; with our idiosyncrasies, our illusions and our ideals. Perfect; with our doubts, our deliberations and our disputes. Perfect; with our fears, our falsehoods and our failures.

Perfectly imperfect, always.

We spend so much of our time judging who we are, where we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going.

When we embrace who we are, without judgement, sweet self-acceptance and peace floods into our lives. The persistent probing and self-loathing stops. The poisonous churning of past and future based fears in our minds subsides. We free up precious time to focus on the present moment, the only point in time that is real. Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future is a pointless waste of our energy. Past and future are merely projections; the only place they exist is inside our minds.

What would it mean for you to embrace yourself as perfect in each and every moment? What if you began to understand every ‘failure’ as a teaching? To see each ‘mistake’ as a valuable opportunity for growth? To accept every ‘shortcoming’ as a unique part of who you are – a child of God/Goddess, an irreplaceable extension of the Source of all creation, one of nature’s miracles?

You are unlike any other person on this earth. Your very existence is sacred. Your unique, human self, exactly as you are in every moment, is truly perfect.

Affirmations for self-acceptance

Repeat these as often as you can, until they become mantras that circulate in your subconscious. Write them down and stick them somewhere you’ll see them regularly. Set them as reminders on your phone that pop up during the day. Make up a tune and sing them to yourself as you go about daily activities.

“In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete. All is well in my world” – Louise Hay

“I deeply and completely love and accept myself”

“My uniqueness is a blessing”

“I love myself unconditionally”

“My existence is sacred. I am a miracle”
